Anecdote
I went to the dentist this morning because I'm getting an abscess forming in the roof of my mouth yet again. This is very frustrating not only for me but for my dentist, who can't see anything wrong with the implant I have there instead of a tooth.
Today, he found out. There's nothing wrong with it; the abscess is coming from an adjacent tooth with a bridge on it. The X-ray showed a small channel connecting my incisor to a ready-made sac left by the earlier abscess that meant I had to have the tooth next to it removed in the first place.
Oh well, it's not as if I haven't had years of unnecessary and expensive dental work done on the wrong tooth or anything...
