Anecdote
A few years ago, I was trying to track down some genealogy details for my dad's maternal grandmother (a particularly records-averse individual). My dad suggested I got in touch with his cousin, who might know more, and gave me the number to call. I called it, and got his cousin's wife. I cheerfully explained who I was and why I wanted to speak to him. She less than cheerfully explained that he'd died a few days earlier and this was the day of his funeral.
Cringe!
One of my wife's cousins called her at the end of last week. My wife told her all about how her mother has had a stroke, the problems of making hospital visits, how to arrange care for when she comes out etc.. Then, she asked her cousin how her mother was. "She died yesterday".
Cringe!
