Anecdote
I've remarked before how my mother has no understanding of anything technical whatsoever. It appears that DVD boxes come under the heading of "technical":
Yes, she tore off the plastic moulding holding the DVD in place in the belief that this is how you're supposed to get them out.
At least I managed to fix her phone for her (she had somehow unknowingly held the * button down for 10 seconds and locked its keypad).
