Anecdote
While I was walking through BHS yesterday, I overheard this conversation between a teenager and two Community Support Officers:
INT. HOME GOODS STORE -- DAY
Polite but dim TEEN of indeterminate gender approaches two COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICERS.
TEEN
Excuse me, I'm not very good at maths. Can you tell me what
something that is £25 with 25% off costs please?
The CSOs discuss the matter among themselves at some length.
CSO1
It's £5.
TEEN
Wow, that's cheap — thanks!
I guess that's why they's CSOs and not full police officers.
