Anecdote
We had one of my nieces and her boyfriend stay round our house last night. In an attempt to trick them into thinking we're not as scruffy as we really are, we vacuumed and dusted everywhere and gave the place a bit of spruce-up.
This had the effect of disturbing all the spiders that live in the various nooks and crannies we had visited, so they left looking for somewhere else to live. They kept popping up all evening and morning. As a result, now my niece thinks our house is infested with them.
