Inability to Draw

Comment

My inability to draw is hampering my attempt to explain a cultural gap in the approach to plaigarism taken by some overseas students and to the people who teach them, so here's a script for a one-off comic strip should anyone with artistic ability (or a will to shoot a dialogue-free movie) wish to make it.

Panel 1
Teacher in Chinese school points to a large poster of a bird (eg. the one on the left in this one).

Panel 2
Chinese boy drawing furiously.

Panel 3
Completed drawing by boy. The bird is giant, has laser eyes and is stomping through Shanghai.

Panel 4
Teacher holding work, pointing at it, and yelling at bewildered-looking boy.

Panel 5
Teacher handing boy fresh sheet of paper.

Panel 6
Repeat of panel 2.

Panel 7
Completed drawing by boy. The bird looks more like the one in the drawing but has a comical dead fish in its mouth.

Panel 8
Repeat of panel 4.

Panel 9
Repeat of panel 5.

Panel 10
Repeat of panel 2.

Panel 11
Completed drawing by boy. The bird looks exactly like the one in the poster.

Panel 12
Teacher smiling and patting the boy on the head.

Panel 13
Picture of a generic English university.
Caption: Ten Years Later.

Panel 14
Same boy, except 10 years older, typing at computer.

Panel 15
Computer screen shows (not necessarily readably) Figure 1 from this document.

Panel 16
Same as panel 15 except with the document and caption highlighted as in cut-and-paste selection.

Panel 17
Pleased student handing document to English lecturer.

Panel 18
Teacher holding work, pointing at it, and yelling at bewildered-looking boy. Same layout as panel 4.
