Anecdote
Our German Exchange student went back to Bitburg today, so we're back to normal.
Leaving was a very sad affair for most of the students, English and German, with tears flowing freely. Once the bus had left, the teachers' attempts to cheer the home students up backfired somewhat: "I'm sure you'll see them all again some day", "They're probably crying on the bus thinking about you", "I know you've made a lot of friends over the exchange, and I'm sure you've had a lot of fun together and I'm sure they'll keep in touch if they really do like you", "You've got all those photos you can look back on to remember them".
Ah, tact...
